The resale market has been growing rapidly in recent years, with many platforms emerging to cater to the increasing demand for sustainable fashion. According to ThredUp’s 2022 report, the global resale market is projected to reach $64 billion by 2024. This growth can be attributed to a number of factors, including increasing awareness of the environmental impact of fast fashion, a desire to extend the life of clothing, and the desire to save money while still getting high-quality items.
However, not all resale platforms are created equal. While some have been wildly successful, others have struggled to gain traction and differentiate themselves in a crowded market. Some platforms, such as Depop and Poshmark, have focused on making it easy for anyone to sell their gently used clothes and accessories. Others, like The RealReal, have taken a more premium approach, offering authentication and appraisal services to ensure that buyers are getting the real deal.
Denue is unique in its focus on denim, which sets it apart from other resale platforms that offer a wider range of clothing and accessories. By focusing on a specific category, Denue is building a global community of denim lovers with a shared interest in high-quality denim, sustainability, and the mission to reduce the environmental impact of fashion. What also sets Denue apart from other resale sites is that it is mission-driven, rather than another ‘make money from your closet’ type of platform.. With its global reach, Denue is able to connect this community across borders and bring together buyers and sellers from all over the world.
Launched only 4 months ago, the main users of Denue are people who care about the environment and love denim. They're attracted to the platform for its focus on quality and extending the life of great denim.
To sell on Denue, you just need to register, connect your PayPal account, and create a listing by uploading photos, adding a title and description, and filling in all the details about the product. Once the listing is submitted, Denue will vet it to make sure it aligns with their standards, and it'll be live the same day.
Denue is also really focused on educating its users about the benefits of pre-owned fashion and the negative impact of fast fashion. They're launching a blog in March that will include a section on sustainability, where they'll talk about all the reasons why buying second-hand denim is a great choice.
We love to see our fellow denim heads (and for me, fellow Canadians) creating a community surrounding sustainability and denim. If it sounds like something you’d fancy! Check Denue out online here.
Until next time friends, always be curious and stay diligent!
